It is not what Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John had in mind, when they wrote the Gospel (Good News) about the New Jerusalem of which Jesus is King.

Slavery, discrimination and the brutal killings of Africans in America and Europe, pushed the black man to look for salvation through song. To close his eyes, stomp his feet, clap his hands, and sing out to Jesus! And all around him in unison sang, “Amen”.

JONATHAN RUSH, (a black man of African lineage) is an Associate Conductor of the BALTIMORE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, and it was his idea to put gospel music on the BSO marquee. He named it GOSPELFEST 2023
