THE SOCIAL WORKER, FIGHTING XENOPHOBIA and RACISM

Rev. Debra Hickman

So, life has thrown you a curve ball; you lost your job, your savings, and your mode of transportation.

Prior to, your ascent was mapped out for your rise to the middle class: a bank account, good credit, and holding a certificate of property ownership.Your company just gave notice of closing, moving overseas to remain competitive. You had no seniority, nor were there any jobs around to pay the salary, you were accustomed to.

Veda Moore, Health Care/Social Worker

It was time to retool yourself, go to school, acquire different certifications, re-emerge as a new being getting back on track.

That did not happen, the mind was overwhelmed with depression, an atomic bomb fell on your future. Eventually, you sought out social assistance, with the help of a Social Worker.

Dr. Lisa Cooper

Subsequently reality whispered in your ear, and behold, you were not alone; many with similar circumstances, had children, were abusing alcohol, had health relapses and needed help with their electric bills, food and clothing.

Gegory Rogers, Health care/Social Worker

You are now classified by some as “strange” foreign to the standard way of life. Certain politicians refused to give any finances to your kind. They were said to be practicers of XENOPHOBIA and RACISM.

Dr. C A. IBE

Deuteronomy 24: 20-21, spurns Xenophobia, instead praises XENOPHILIA!!:

LOVE, APPRECIATION, MANNERS.

In Baltimore, during the 1980’s, the Social Worker wore that breastplate, that saved many lives.

Award winning photojournalist La TOYA RUBY FRAZIER, has built a monument to the Baltimore Social Worker. This for all to see at the Baltimore Museum of Art.
