THEY COULD NOT PLAY IN GLEN ECHO PARK

It was 1960. America’s only black city, was Washington D.C. The premier black/ African American University was Howard.

Yet 13 miles away, blacks were not allowed to enter an amusement park, named GLEN ECHO.

Just imagine, the most highly educated blacks, eating and drinking the best, driving the best cars, but their money could not buy tickets to a park.

The park was owned by the Baker brothers, (Jews) who felt blacks would scare whites away, thus affecting the park’s financial success.

It was time for the Bold and the Brave, when some Howard students, and white Jewish sympathizers formed NAG. (Nonviolent Action Group), to end segregation at Echo Park.

This journey is now available in a new film, AINT NO BACK TO A MERRY GO ROUND., by Ilana Trachtman. World premiere at the Maryland Film Festival on May 5th.
