When this song was released with Annie Lennox, the soft rock singer, no one thought it would rise to be embraced by millions. Where though, did this “putting a spell” on someone come from?
I chuckle as I write this, because spells are associated with evil. It is what the Devil did to Eve. As we studied society, we’ve come know some people love to be under a “spell”.; it gives them that “WOW!”
For most spells to work, there must be a rhythm, and a build to a crescendo, then “Walla!”…”I’m good now”
Classical music does not have rhythmic punctuations, you sit in your seat, and at the end of the performance, one applauds. So then this rhythm has to come from a totally different source! Yes, right from across the Atlantic, AFRICA. The voodoo priests and priestesses were placing spells on people who had wishes on enemies, lovers, and did not want to die because of a “spell!!!”
This is the rhythm that gave birth to American Blues, Jazz and Gospel (ask Tommy Dorsey). Not to forget “Funk” and now “Hip Hop”. In the Caribbean the Africans were doing the masquerade, calypso and reggae. SPELLS!!!

That reverse of the Atlantic travel has now produced VOODOO-ROCK. Out of the belly of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. This priestess is being supported by a group of children of the “plantocracy”, who grew up playing Hard Rock. Believe it or not, her name is “MOONLIGHT” BENJAMIN.
What happens when the priestess casts a spell ? Last week I fell into the trance, her spell? It happened at the CREATIVE ALLIANCE, in Baltimore (March’2025),

Sharing is caring!
