Listening to a talk show on a local university radio station. The caller is criticizing the governor of Maryland, claiming he is not an African American, because he has Cuban and Panamanian blood.
Has this caller looked at Frederick Douglass, Rosa Parks, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Justice Thurgood Marshall, Borak Obama? Why do African Americans keep making the same errors made in the past? They only congeal when there is a crisis!! Look what happened to the Somalis in Minnesota, the Haitians in Florida and Ohio!
So, here we are dreaming again about FREEDOM from enslavement and discrimination. Apartheid was not eliminated by a dream deferred. Slavery was not abolished without unity.
Where are the celebrations for BLACK HISTORY MONTH? The heroes are dead, with no legacy that is palpable.
Maryland lost thousands of jobs by actions of the current White House administration. Most are African Americans. Thousands of people now have had their dreams deferred. It’s the very same reason why millions died crossing the Atlantic in slave ships. Once again, we are “crabs in a barrel”, rather than “scorpions on the attack”.
Africans are good at libations, pouring a drink: water, alcohol in respect of the past. Is the past motivational or repetitive?
I attended an artistic look on Greenmount Avenue in Baltimore, MD., looking at A Dream Deferred. Sponsored by Charm City Cultural Cultivation.
