A MUSICIAN WITHOUT AN INSTRUMENT

I KNEW OF HIM, FROM LISTENING TO HIS VOICE ON RADIO, WEAA_FM (Morgan State University, Baltimore Maryland).

The station started just about the same time I came to Baltimore. On one of my journalistic adventures in Baltimore, I met him, while he was advocating for a cause.

I was shocked to know he had passed in December of 2024.

I was attending a concert, (Dec. 18^th, 2025) at ANDIE MUSIK, on Howard Street in Baltimore. The concert was the release of a new CD by BOISTER of Baltimore, of whom I have never heard. This group, from my research, is famous overseas, with a small following in its hometown. Their music is labeled as ALTERNATIVE.

Led by a woman of great dexterity (musically): piano, accordion and vocals; ANNE WATTS, sat at the piano, and in front of her is this picture of DOC MANNING, as though he was resurrected and sitting in front of her whispering encouragement.

Doc was so much loved by musicians all over, he was a vocal advocate for America’s only true original music, JAZZ.

Needless to say, I was stunned somewhat over this realization, I did not make my unawareness known to others present. I now know why he was considered A MUSICIAN WITHOUT AN INSTRUMENT.
