It was the end of racial discrimination by law in the United States. I took 400 years for African Americans to be considered equal at the ballot box.
From this trunk, civil rights movements branched out like geysers. 2 years later KWANZAA was born.
December 26, 1966, is the official date of the celebration’s beginning. Created by professor of African studies, RONALD McKINLEY EVERETT, who changed his name to MAULANA NDABEZITHA KARENGA. Born July 14, 1941, in Maryland.
Initially Kwanzaa was an attack on Christmas, calling it “a white holiday”, which accounts for its beginning on December 26.
Later the concept was changed, encouraging African Americans to celebrate themselves and their cultural ambitions, outlining 7 goals, signified by 7 candles.
Since 1964, African Americans have become Millionaires and Billionaires. When the carpetbaggers and the plantocracy came to the Americas, they took land, sold humans, and built institutions for their offspring to maintain in the succeeding centuries. Chrysler, General Motors, Ford, Frigidaire, and Harvard, to name a few. The inner cities like Baltimore have no institutions any of these black millionaires built to fit the Kwanzaa concept of “self-sufficiency”. Yet African Americans are celebrating! As for the Africans in Africa, the Organization of African Unity was established in 1963, that fell apart in 2002. Now there is the African Union, with little influence over 1.3 billion people. China has 1.4 billion. Who has more clout in the world?
I travelled to the Weinberg Center on 33rd Street in Baltimore Maryland, to watch the KWANZAA celebration for 2025, and ask some questions.African Americans are far from self sufficient, when they have no building of their own to celebrate. Look around, there are ethnic Cathedrals, Sysnogogues and burial grounds; while the majority of poor and homeless are not of those persuasions. What happened SINCE 1964 ?
